Signs for my Heart

I’ll be the first to admit that our signs are a bit amateurish. Hand-drawn and then carved out.

It started simply, marking our woodland trails with driftwood signs. Functional, not fancy.

Then our son raised the bar by gifting us carving tools. Suddenly, our rustic signs began to look a little more intentional.

We won’t be winning any blue ribbons at the fair—but they are definitely a step up from my old Sharpie pen.

Somewhere along the way, I had an idea to make some signs just for me. A daily reminder to see each time I walk past:

Love ~ Joy ~ Peace ~ Patience ~ Kindness ~ Goodness ~ Gentleness ~ Faithfulness ~ and Self Control.

The Apostle Paul called these the fruit of the Spirit.

There’s something about carving those words—taking the time to shape each letter, to paint them in—that changes how you think of them.

They’re no longer just words on a sign. They settle into your mind, and if you let them, into your heart.

Now comes the harder part.

Not just seeing them as I walk past—but living them out wherever I go.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Galatians 5:22-23
