What’s on Your Bucket List?

I didn’t know that April 24 is recognized as National Bucket List Day—a day meant to nudge us toward setting new goals or finally taking that long-dreamed-of trip—before time slips away.

What’s in my bucket? I’ve had a long time to collect things.

As a teen, a youth pastor handed me cleaning supplies at summer camp. He said helping others sometimes means doing what no one else wants to do—as I headed off to scrub toilets. That pastor added some purpose to my bucket.

I struggled in school, often wondering if I’d ever catch up. But I also had teachers who consistently filled my bucket with something I didn’t always have on my own: hope.

In my late forties, a doctor told me I needed to exercise more and eat better. Not complicated advice, but not easy either. That doctor added determination to my bucket.

A pastor, doctor, and many teachers filled my bucket with better ways of living.

Maybe the best kind of bucket list isn’t just about what we hope to do before life ends, but about how we choose to live while we’re here.

So I’ll ask you the same question I’ve been asking myself:

What’s on your bucket list—not just for someday, but for a better today… and tomorrow?

Psalm 90:12 — “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
